Doing a bit of quick research on the term “emoji” I discovered the first icons called emojis were created by a Japanese engineer. Perhaps that explains the inscrutable nature of some of the little suckers.

Take the “halo” emojis. Half the time the ones on my iPhone look like the face is wearing a hat brim without the crown. Either that, or it seems to be a golden-horned smiling devil.

But, who am I to judge? As another blogger noted concerning my piece Assuming I Care, I may be attempting to be inscrutable myself at times. Personally, I believe the problem is I adapt to the circumstances and people tend to stereotype others on limited data. That is why one of my favorite emojis is:
